We just ran across this fascinating information recently about how certain sounds have tangible healing effects on us. Not a giant news flash for some, but the details are interesting. Isn't it funny how people have always known/felt these types of things, but science is now progressed to the point that it can actually confirm and expand upon some of it?

It reminds me of Jon's work decades ago at U.S.C. on the world's first or second (I think Russia got theirs done first) Kirilian photography system. Metaphysicians down through the ages have asserted that we have an "aura" or "chi" or "prana" flowing out of and around us. However, if you tried to explain that to the men "interviewing you" during the Inquisition, you'd have been the unhappy guest of honor at a barbeque - if you know what I mean! Kirilian photography is a process where you introduce an electrical current to a metal plate with film on it, and you place an object onto that film. The film registers what the object's effect on the electrical current is. With this technology, we can actually observe the "field" around things. Of course, now we have devices that can scientifically measure the micro-amperage of an object/being too. Neat stuff. But I digress. Here's the piece on sound from www.tesh.com :

Studies show that sounds actually have the power to heal broken bones, cure life-threatening heart ailments, and fight depression. Here's a sample, courtesy of Woman's World magazine:
a.. The sound of a harp can cure heart problems. Studies show that powerful vibrations from harp music can reduce blood pressure, calm the nervous system, and normalize irregular heartbeats. In fact, some hospitals now play harp music in the operating room during delicate heart surgeries.
b.. A purring cat can heal broken bones. According to the Fauna Communication Research Institute, cats purr at the same frequency already being used to orthopedists to strengthen bones. The sound can even help speed the healing of fractures. In fact, tests are underway to see if purring can help prevent osteoporosis. Just one more reason to get yourself a feline friend.
c.. When it comes to soothing pain, the sound of waterfalls does the trick. A study found that patients with chronic pain exposed to sounds of rushing water experienced a 30% drop in stress hormones - and confirmed that their pain had diminished. Researchers think it reminds us of the sounds of the womb, which makes us feel safe, and releases pain-reducing endorphins.
d.. What sound helps combat depression? Ocean waves. It's an especially relaxing form of "white noise" - background sound that subconsciously induces serenity and calm. In a recent study, students who listened to ocean sounds had less stress and anxiety, less depression, and higher test scores - than students who weren't exposed to the sounds of crashing surf.
e.. Dolphin song! Acoustic therapist Laurie Seligman says that dolphins emit frequencies that stimulate tissue repair and blood circulation, and strengthen your immune system. So all those chirps, clicks and whistles can help fight headaches, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, and more.
